System overview
Unlike a standard inline slider, a lift and slide system raises the active sash slightly clear of the seals before it moves. This reduces friction during operation and makes larger, heavier glazed panels easier to handle. Once closed, the sash lowers back into position and compresses the gaskets, helping to improve airtightness, weather resistance and security. The system is equipped with GU-934-H hardware with load-bearing capability up to 300 kg.
Construction and material options
The door is available both as a timber door and as an aluminium-clad timber door. The sash and frame are manufactured from glue-lam pine, quality class A1-A3, with a frame depth of 184 mm, increasing to 202 mm with external alucladding. This gives a robust insulated construction while allowing you to choose between a fully timber appearance or a lower-maintenance aluminium-clad exterior.
Glazing and thermal performance
The system is available with either double or triple glazing. The triple-glazed version uses a 40 mm insulated glass unit with two LowE glasses and argon fill, while a double-glazed option is also available. Thermal transmittance values are Uw = 0.90 W/m²K for the 3-glazed version and Uw = 1.40 W/m²K for the 2-glazed version, although final values should always be checked against the exact size and specification being quoted.
Hardware, security and operation
The system uses modern GU lift and slide door hardware, designed to provide smooth movement and positive locking. A PAS24 solution option is available for suitable specifications where enhanced security performance is required. The active door part is operated by the handle and can also be positioned for secure ventilation.
Weather, acoustic and tested performance
Tested performance values include Air tightness Class 4 (600 Pa), Water tightness Class E750 (750 Pa), Resistance to wind load Class 4C (1600 Pa), and Sound insulation Rw = 34 dB (-1;-4) with standard triple glazing. These figures make the system suitable for demanding residential applications where exposure, comfort and operational reliability all matter.
Finishes and design options
Timber versions can be specified where a fully natural appearance is preferred, while aluclad versions combine a timber interior with an external aluminium shell for improved durability and reduced maintenance. The system can be used as part of a coordinated timber window and door package, helping to maintain consistent finishes, sightlines and overall design language across the project.

Lift and slide doors should be specified with proper attention to threshold design, support, floor build-ups and external levels. They are particularly useful on patios, terraces and other locations where a traditional inward or outward opening door is less practical because of space constraints.
